176 museums and archaeological sites marked as free to enter, in 53 provinces. Istanbul has the most (16). The list is mostly municipal, university and foundation museums and small city collections.
The "Free" badge only appears where OpenStreetMap marks the place as having no admission fee (fee=no) or where we checked by hand. It never appears on a place that OpenStreetMap marks as paid. Admission policies change, and some places are free only on certain days, so check the official website before you go.

What does the "Free" badge mean?
It appears where OpenStreetMap marks the place as having no admission fee (fee=no) or where we checked by hand. It does not guarantee that every section is free on every day; temporary exhibitions or special areas may charge.
Can a place known to charge show the badge?
No. If OpenStreetMap marks a place as paid (fee=yes), the Free badge never appears, and a manual correction cannot override that. If the two sources disagree, our data update warns us and we check the entry.
Which museums tend to be free?
Most entries here are municipal, university and foundation museums and small city collections. Ministry-run museums usually charge and accept the Museum Pass. Every place sets its own rules, though, so check the badges on each card and the official website.
Are there free days?
Some museums offer free entry on certain days or weeks. These change from year to year, so we do not list dates. For Ministry museums follow the announcements on muze.gov.tr; for others, their own websites.
Who can enter Ministry museums for free?
Ministry museums give free or discounted entry to some age and professional groups. The groups and required documents are updated, so we do not list them here; see the current notice on muze.gov.tr.
Why do so few museums show a price?
We only show a price for the most visited places, when we could confirm it from an official source, and always with its date. Prices older than twelve months are hidden automatically. An out-of-date price misleads more than no price at all.
How do I see free museums on the map?
Turn on the Free filter on the home page map, or use the map at the top of this page. You can combine it with a province or type; the address bar keeps your filters, so you can share the link.
What if a museum's admission status is wrong?
Use the "Wrong information?" line on the museum page to tell us, or fix the fee tag on OpenStreetMap yourself. OpenStreetMap corrections reach this site with the next data update.
