About

Müze Gezgini ("museum explorer" in Turkish) started with a simple question: which museums are there at the place I'm going to this weekend, which ones are open right now, and which accept the Müzekart? In Turkey that information is scattered. State museums have one website, municipal and private museums are spread across many others, and opening hours are often only on the museum's own page, if anywhere. We wanted all of it on one map that you can filter.

What's covered

The site lists 3,173 places: 1,350 museums and 1,823 archaeological sites across 81 provinces. It is not limited to museums run by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; municipal, university, foundation and private museums are included too. Every entry has its own page, location and sources. The Methodology page explains where the data comes from and how it is filtered.

• Travellers in Turkey planning a short trip who want to know what to see in a given town.
• Holders of the Müzekart, the annual state museum card for Turkish citizens and residents.
• Visitors from abroad looking for information in English, since many smaller museums publish only in Turkish.
• Teachers planning school trips and writers looking for sources.

Independence

Müze Gezgini is an independent project. It has no connection with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism or with muzeler.org. For official information, the ministry's own site, muze.gov.tr, is the authority.

Using the data

The data is compiled from open sources and refreshed once a year. In between, a museum may move, change its hours or its Müzekart status. Before you travel, confirm opening hours and ticket details with an official source. If you are heading to a remote site, calling the museum or the local culture office in advance is the safest option.

No accounts

You don't need an account to use the site. The museums you tick off in your Passport and your game scores are stored only in your own browser and never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.
